In anticipation of its 150th anniversary, Liberty launches new interiors and fashion fabrics collection - FuturLiberty, marking the milestone with two large-scale exhibitions at Museo del Novecento and Palazzo Morando in the city of Milan.

Designed in collaboration with esteemed couturier and interior designer, Federico Forquet, FuturLiberty presents an unexpected collection of bold, geometric designs. Whilst internationally renowned for its iconic fabrics and floral patterns, this new collection spotlights the lesser known role of Liberty in developing dynamic and abstract prints.

In researching the Liberty archive, home to over 50,000 designs spanning from the 1880s to present day, the designers were drawn to the experimental work of famed Liberty designer, Bernard Nevill. FuturLiberty takes cues from Nevill’s love for the 20th-century avant-garde art, incorporating the visual language of rebellious art movements, notably the Italian Futurists and their English contemporaries the Vorticists.

From April through to September 2023, Liberty takes to Milan to present the story of FuturLiberty across the two landmark institutions. Working alongside an internationally renowned art historian and curator, Ester Coen, the exhibitions place the fabrics alongside prominent Futurist and Vorticist artworks loaned from the likes of the Tate and the British Council.

During Milan Design Week 2023, Liberty also launches a detailed account of FuturLiberty, published by Thames & Hudson. The highly visual study illuminates the process by which FuturLiberty came into being, revealing how art can inform design, making it contemporary, relevant, and engaging.

Following Design Week in Milan, Liberty will showcase the FuturLiberty collection in its iconic department store in London, and online at LibertyLondon.com.
