LIBERTY LAUNCHES 150th ANNIVERSARY INTERIOR FABRIC AND WALLPAPER COLLECTION, THE HOUSE OF LIBERTY, AT DÉCO OFF PARIS
15 January 2025

Liberty has unveiled its latest interior fabric and wallpaper collection, The House of Liberty, in celebration of the design house’s 150th anniversary at Déco Off, Paris.
Drawing inspiration from key moments throughout Liberty’s past, the collection marks a new era for the design house as they look towards future generations. Viewing the rich design history of Liberty through a contemporary eye, The House of Liberty turns to their 60,000-strong archive for defining fragments of the design house’s evolution, paying homage to the original furnishing fabrics that first established its esteemed reputation.

Historically recognised as innovators and leaders in the world of interiors, The House of Liberty both reinvents and applauds the legacy of craftsmanship and artistry at the heart of its established design house. The new collection presents reimagined Victorian maximalist-style paisleys, embellished embroideries, and ‘70s style florals in a harmonious blend with bold, geometrics and formal stripes.
The collection is divided into three chapters which explore defining epochs throughout the design house’s evolution: Arts Club (1860-1875), Town House (1875-1910), and Painters House (1960-1980). Presenting 104 various colourways across 27 new fabric and 3 wallpaper designs, The House of Liberty is designed to be seamlessly combined across chapters, offering a tapestry of the design house’s rich history recreated for the present day.

ARTS CLUB
The Arts Club chapter combines bohemian botanicals with decorative glamour, exploring Victorian Maximalist interiors through an array of rich, avant-garde aesthetics.
Discovered as a fabric fragment in an 1880s Liberty pattern book, Palm Parade references archival artwork originally crafted using woodblock printing, showcasing an array of stylised carnations reminiscent of Middle Eastern artistry.
A contemporary interpretation of a historical flame stitch, Bombazine depicts a vibrant zigzag pattern, highlighting luxurious textural yarns coloured with rich hues from the design house’s signature colour palette. Meanwhile, Paisley Willow carefully reinvents an original Palm Willow artwork by Liberty to incorporate a tropical twist, now printed on the design house’s new fabric base, Tana Reborn Eve.

TOWN HOUSE
Town House presents a coming together of the artists, poets, and playwrights of the Aesthetic Movement and Art Nouveau period, paying homage to the key voices behind Liberty’s journey to becoming leading tastemakers and innovators in the world of interior design.
Inspired by one of Liberty’s most iconic designs dating back to the mid-1880s, Regency Hera re-imagines the Hera print for the world of interiors, depicting an array of rich peacock hues.
Adapted from a series of textile fragments from the early 1900s, Wilde Lotus spotlights lotus flowers, leaves, and seed pods in a statement, Art-Nouveau style print, subtly combining tonality and texture across a linen and sumptuous velvet blend. Royal Ianthe likewise reinterprets the archival Ianthe motif, celebrating the timeless appeal of violet flowers in a striking, overprinted jacquard design.

PAINTER’S HOUSE
Painter’s House looks to the drawings, manuscripts, and sketchbooks of pioneering designers to explore an array of folk-inspired florals. Spanning the nostalgia of the 1960s and ‘70s, the designs reflect a joyful blend of the geometrics and painterly gardens, traceable to the artistic retreats of painters, musicians, and designers from the time.
Drawing from Japanese mountainscapes and ancient forests, Mount Stitch reflects this dramatic scenery in a richly detailed embroidery, densely populated with boucle yarns. Pomegranate Garden embraces the ‘Lotus’ collections of the 1960s, meticulously re-drawn into a stylised representation of a blossoming orchard, depicting camouflaged birds amongst lush foliage, tulips, and irises.
Orbella takes notes from a hand-painted artwork from 1973, reflecting a dynamic geometric design through an interplay of alternating stripes and circles. Pairing contrasting colour palettes with a vibrant visual rhythm, the design was created to seamlessly complement the intricate floral and paisley prints found within The House of Liberty collection.

Meticulously hand-painted in the Liberty design studio in London, and expertly crafted using traditional and cutting-edge techniques in Italy and India, silk-jacquards, twill stripes, woven wools, printed herringbones, and tactile velvets arrive alongside a brand new fabric base, Tana Reborn Eve. Presenting a unique blend of raw cotton, 20% recycled fragments of the iconic Tana Lawn™ cotton, and 34% recycled polyester, the new base launches as an innovative fabric for drapery and accessories.
The House of Liberty fabric and wallpaper collection will be available to purchase in the iconic Liberty department store in London, and online at LibertyLondon.com from 17 January '25.
