Kartell and Liberty announce a three-part collaboration, launching at Salone del Mobile during Milan Design Week this April ‘24. United by their joint pursuit of quality and elegance, Liberty and Kartell unveil a capsule collection of limited furniture designs alongside a curation of collaborative fabrics, offering a harmonious blend across design and decorative arts.

“This new partnership is the logical result of both parties having a rich history on which to draw, enjoying a reputation for innovation, beauty and elegance in their respective areas, and having the same ability to create a uniquely transversal lifestyle.” - Lorenza Luti, Director of Marketing & Retail, Kartell

Bespoke furniture designs include a collaborative H.H.H - HER HIGHEST HIGHNESS chair, offering an innovative take on Philippe Starck’s newest and most regal design for Kartell, launching this year. Crafted using 2.0 polycarbonate and innovative graphic impression techniques, the H.H.H chair spotlights six Liberty fabrics designs across the seat covering, referencing bespoke and archival designs in a series of printed and re-upholstered models. In addition, Liberty re-works Kartell’s Piazza tray by Fabio Novembre, printed in Liberty’s ‘Artemis’ print across four colourways.

“The prospect of adding a decorative element to Kartell's HHH chair was so exciting. From the beginning we were determined to pay homage to the design classic by incorporating intricate, hand-drawn motifs whilst respecting the structural aspects of Philippe Starck’s design. We imagined lush foliage to intertwine seamlessly with the furniture, where Liberty prints would climb over the pieces, creating a flourishing garden of vibrant colour.” - Mary-Ann Dunkley, Design Director - Product & Fabrics, Liberty

The two furniture designs launch alongside a curation of bold floral and geometric fabrics for use across Kartell’s iconic Pop sofa and Trix Pouf by Piero Lissoni and Cara armchair by Philippe Starck and Sergio Schito. Reimagining archival Liberty fabrics to new and striking scales in exclusive colourways, the capsule collection comprises 10 designs spanning indoor and outdoor fabrics.

Available in four bespoke colourways, Patricia presents a richly stylised, floral motif created in the 1990s and inspired by Liberty’s beloved Tree of Life artworks. Artemis draws inspiration from exquisitely hand-painted florals from the 1930s, featuring exuberant mixed floral blooms and delicate blossom flowers.

NOTES TO EDITORS

INDOOR COLLECTION:

Patricia (in four bespoke colourways)
Patricia is a richly stylised and exquisitely detailed floral, created in the 1990s and inspired by ancient Tree of Life artworks. Expertly printed in Italy.

Faria Flowers
Faria Flowers is a hand-painted floral design drawn from studies taken at the Royal Chelsea Flower Show and Hampton Court, London. Expertly printed in Italy.

Stately Kristina (in a bespoke colourway for Kartell)
Stately Kristina was created from a series of exquisitely hand-painted artworks from the 1920s and '30s, featuring floating arrangements of detailed roses, tulips and blossom flowers. Expertly printed in Italy.

GRAPHIC IMPRESSION PATTERNS:

Harvest Time
Originally painted using gouache in a stylised technique of multiple geometric shapes and stripes, Harvest Time is a contemporary interpretation of the well-known Tree of Life style.

Tumbling Wilde
Tumbling Wilde takes more simplified depictions of the feather motif, and cleverly overlays them to form a collage of stripes. The stylised patterns and bold colours create a fun and playful take on a feather-inspired print.

Mabelle
Inspired by Indian chintz designs of the 17th and 18th centuries, Mabelle was created by the Liberty Fabrics designers, in the Design Studio in the heart of London.

Moon Flower
The Moon Flower, which blooms once a year for just a few hours, sits amongst various other rare flowers in a repeat reminiscent of the Arts & Crafts style which is so integral to Liberty.

OUTDOOR COLLECTION:

Tamba
Tamba is a plush yarn-dyed, geometric bouclé with a rich depth of colour and texture.

Obi Check
Inspired by vintage Japanese Obi belts and antique kimono linings, Obi Check is an exquisite geometric.

Artemis
Handpainted in the Liberty Design Studio; the exuberant mixed floral blooms are paired with sweet delicate flowers reminiscent of Liberty’s iconic 1930s florals.
