FUTURLIBERTY, BY FEDERICO FORQUET AND LIBERTY, NOW AVAILABLE

Featuring an interiors range spanning an array of vibrant fabric designs and home accessories

In anticipation of its 150th anniversary, Liberty has launched its newest fabrics collection, FuturLiberty. Created in collaboration with esteemed couturier and interior designer, Federico Forquet, FuturLiberty presents a collection of unexpected, geometric designs.

In researching the Liberty archive, home to over 50,000 designs spanning from the 1880s to present day, the Liberty Design team were drawn to the experimental work of famed Liberty designer, Bernard Nevill. The team were inspired by Nevill’s love for the 20th-century avant-garde art, specifically taking cues from the rebellious Italian Futurists and their English contemporaries the Vorticists. Whilst taking inspiration from Liberty’s archives, FuturLiberty also draws on Forquet’s personal home - reflected through a joyful colour story that encapsulates the surrounding Southern Tuscany setting rich with architecture, flora, and fauna.

The interiors fabric range spans 17 fabric designs, featuring various embroidery and weave techniques; alongside a home accessories collection comprising 26 cushion designs and Liberty’s debut throw collection made from luxurious cashmere and wool. Each fabric design offers a feeling of refreshed intensity and optimism with dense brush strokes, delicate lines, and playful collage. These artistic impressions many of which are composed from marks made by hand, have been transformed into designs that introduce vibrancy into an interior space.

Reworked from an archive artwork featuring a central torn-paper effect, Terrazzo Weave reimagines the original artwork as all-over pattern repeat. Meanwhile, Future Embroidery’s collage of Jacquard woven and embroidered shapes evokes the geometric fields surrounding Forquet’s home. Originally a scarf design from the Liberty archive, Tudor Columns reflects the iconic Tudor building that houses Liberty’s flagship store and Design Studio where the FuturLiberty collection was first imagined.

Zig Zag Linen - Sahara; Motion Stripe - Vietri; Trepak Embroidery - Summer

Referencing an archive design that this thought to date from the early 20th century, the Zig Zag designs - available in linen and velvet - express the high-energy liveliness of jazz dance. The Motion Stripe series has been created through an innovative combination of techniques, seeking to reflect the motion and colour depicted in Futurist painting. Whilst Trepak Weave reimagines an original design by Nevill for the 1965 Liberty Jazz collection - the modern day iteration presents three-dimensional, decorative embroidery.

FuturLiberty collections are available to purchase in Liberty’s iconic department store in London, and online at LibertyLondon.com.
