EMBARGO: LIBERTY UNVEILS 150th ANNIVERSARY INTERIOR FABRIC AND WALLPAPER COLLECTION

The House of Liberty launches as an homage to the design house’s legacy in craftsmanship and artistry in the wake of its 150th anniversary

In celebration of the design house’s 150th anniversary, Liberty has announced a new interior fabric and wallpaper collection, The House of Liberty. Inspired by pivotal moments throughout Liberty’s rich history, the collection looks to its 60,000-strong archive, brimming with maximalist paisleys, embellished embroideries, drawings, manuscripts, and recent artworks for defining fragments of its illustrious past as they look towards future generations.

Marking a new era, The House of Liberty applauds and reinvents the original furnishing fabrics that first catalysed the genesis of its esteemed design house with a fresh and contemporary eye, celebrating Liberty’s ongoing authority as innovators and leaders in the world of interiors.

Inspired by the aesthetic legacies treasured in the Liberty Regent Street flagship store, the collection is divided into three chapters which explore distinctive and defining periods of the design house’s evolution: Arts Club (1860-1875), Town House (1875-1910), and Painters House (1960-1980). Drawing on these pivotal moments, The House of Liberty presents a captivating array of new fabric and wallpaper designs, united across the signature Liberty colour palette, designed to harmoniously combine across a landscape of seamless juxtapositions.

The collection’s first chapter, Arts Club, presents a meeting of bohemian botanicals with decorative glamour. This chapter explores late Victorian Maximalist interiors, spotlighting the rich, avant-garde aesthetics of late Victorian Regent Street in London.

Town House presents a coming together of the artists, poets, and playwrights of the Aesthetic Movement and Art Nouveau period, as defining influences in Liberty’s journey to becoming leading tastemakers and innovators in the world of interior design.

Documented in the drawings and manuscripts of pioneering designers and defining artists of the time, Painters House turns to archival sketchbooks as a nod to Liberty’s sartorial past, exploring folk-inspired florals, traceable to the artistic retreats of painters, musicians, and fashion spanning the nostalgia of the 1960s and ‘70s. A joyful representation of characterful geometrics and signature stripes mixed with painterly garden parties, this chapter follows the cultural shifts in aesthetic legacies throughout the decades, underpinned by a colourful, curated spirit.

An embodiment of the innovation at the heart of the Liberty design studio, the new collection arrives alongside a brand new fabric base, Tana Reborn Eve. The new yarn presents a unique blend of raw cotton, 20% recycled fragments of the iconic Tana Lawn™ cotton, and 34% recycled polyester. Launching as a fresh and innovative fabric for drapery and accessories, the new base will be available across two designs, and six colourways from The House of Liberty - Grand Thorpe, and Paisley Willow.

Meticulously hand-painted in the Liberty design studio in London, and expertly crafted using traditional and cutting-edge techniques in Italy and India, the fabrics highlight a variety of silk-jacquards, twill stripes, woven wools, printed herringbones, and tactile velvets; while the wallpaper designs spotlight opulent wide-width bases and grass-cloths, featuring luxurious textures.

In January ‘25, Liberty will unveil The House of Liberty collection at Déco Off, Paris in an immersive gallery installation, open to the public from 15-18 January, 09:30-18:00.
